From Fear to Confidence

I’m excited to share my Gavel Journey with you all.

It has now been almost a year since I joined the Gavel Club and I often wish I had joined earlier. However, I am truly glad to be a part of this amazing  community. The sad truth is many students miss out on this golden opportunity to begin the journey to discover their potential. Gavel is the place at the university level where fear is transformed into strength and nervousness into confidence.

Learning, Growing, and Speaking Up

When I joined, I didn’t know what to expect. Almost everything in the Gavel environment felt unfamiliar; table topics, round robin sessions, role players and many other things. However, gradually I realized how things worked, it was not just about giving speeches. I prepared myself for the prepared speeches, impromptu sessions and leadership roles as well. I made it a point to attend as many educational meetings as possible. In those days, I still remember being too scared to turn on the camera during virtual meetings. But our mentor circle session changed that. The mentors and guests explained to us how to express ourselves with confidence and how to embrace excitement when we speak.

 Personal Growth and Memorable Events

Every opportunity added value to my personal growth because club activities involved with enhancing soft skills as well. Beyond public speaking, there were unforgettable moments get togethers, Christmas celebration and a special event called “Gas” held for the 100th anniversary that bought us closer as a family. Being a part of the organizing committee, helped me develop teamwork and organizing skills and gave me chance to make friends with different faculties.

What Gavel Truly Means to Me

This is what Gavel means to me. it’s not just about speaking English. It’s about using English as a living, practical language. It’s not about parrot reading; it’s about expressing our thoughts. And keep in mind,” practice makes us perfect”.

Gavel club is not only a public speaking platform, it’s a community that supports uplifts, empowers. There’s no judgment, only growth. Through the feedback and encouragement I received, I truly found my voice.

More Than Just Speaking

Because in the end, public speaking isn’t just about speaking.
It’s about connecting, inspiring, and leading.
