The Gavel Club of the University of Ruhuna has hit an exciting milestone this year—10 incredible years of shaping confident speakers, fearless leaders, and dreamers ready to take on the world.

Since its beginning, this club has been a lifeline for students looking to overcome their fear of public speaking and improve their English skills. With the support of Toastmasters International, Gavel Clubs across Sri Lanka, including Ruhuna, have given countless young voices the courage to shine.

On November 23, 2024, the club celebrated a decade of success in grand style with “Gavel at Sea 2.0” at the stunning Matara Beach. Imagine the waves crashing softly in the background, the salty breeze in the air, and the laughter of students echoing across the sands. It was a day filled with fun, inspiration, and a celebration of all the club has achieved.

The event was powered by the energy and dedication of the university’s faculties and led by the enthusiastic club president, Miss Siyumi Wellappili, along with Miss Yenushi Weerasuriya, who headed the event organizing team. Together, they created an unforgettable day of games, speeches, and moments to remember forever.

There was something magical about seeing Gaveliers of all ages come together, sharing stories of how the club changed their lives. For some, it helped them find their voice; for others, it became a second family.

But the celebrations don’t stop here! The Gavel Club has more events planned for December, promising even more joy and excitement. As they celebrate this grand milestone, one thing is clear—”Gavel Never Stops.”

As the sun set on the golden sands of Matara Beach, it wasn’t just an end to the day. It was the beginning of a new chapter for the Gavel Club of Ruhuna. Here’s to 10 years of unforgettable memories and to a future filled with endless possibilities.
